Range MTB Wednesday Night Ride

The Range MTB Wednesday night rides started about 15 years ago with approximately 4 riders and now boasts and average of about 60 riders a night.

The Wed. rides begin at the Jasper Ridge Brewery parking lot (located just west of the U.S. Ski Hall of Fame on U.S. 41 in Ishpeming) at 6:30 p.m. sharp! The ride is usually divided into an A, B, and B- group.

A Group Ride: 95% single track, 2-3 hours in length, sometimes only covering 6-8 miles, blood loss has been known to occur. The terrain can be rocky, rooty, gnarly, hilly, and even sometimes buffed smooth fast rolling single track. Riders generally do not get dropped and left behind as bait, but it does happen.

B Group Ride: A good mixture of single track and two track roads. This a good place to start if you haven't experienced the Range MTB rides. This ride is geared toward more aerobic or endurance building, rides average 2-3 hours in length and may cover 20 miles. The ride normally has a leader and a "caboose" so nobody gets left behind. (Not to say it hasn't happened, though)

B- Group Ride: A spin-off of the B Ride for those that are not yet up to speed or are new to MTB riding. This group does always occur, especially in the "early" and "late" season. [top]

KMK Tuesday Night Road Rides

The Tuesday night rides have been happening long before the KMK was organized, but the community seemed to want more organization to these rides, so we’re giving it a shot in 2010.

This page refers to our planned weekly recreational riding schedule. All scheduled rides are dependent on favorable weather conditions and is also dependent on potential conflicts with other planned activities. Always refer to the Message Board to double-check changes to the planned schedule.

The Tuesday rides will leave from the Mattson Lower Harbor Park at 6:00 p.m. There will be three separate rides: A, B and C. Some of us look really mean, but we’re actually a very nice group of people. Just show up and ask around for who’s with what group.

Currently the club has two elite groups, which are the A group and the B group.

The A ride will often average over 20 mph. For the first half of the ride, the group will occasionally wait up for slower riders to keep them from being dropped. From the halfway point on, it’s a drop ride, so be prepared ride alone if you can’t hang.

The B ride is a no-drop ride and will average 16-18 mph.

There is also a C Group and this is the last time you will hear about the C Group! Herein thereafter, we shall be called the COMFORT group, and we shall be known as the Comfort-eers!

Now, why would you want to become a Comfort-teer and come on down to the Harbor at 6:10 on Tuesdays and bicycle with us?

First of all, you can ride whatever you have, and at a speed of your choosing. For example, the ride on May 11, our first one, will be 10 miles; we are going from the Harbor out to Harvey and stop in at McDonalds for a burger or whatever. We will then turn-a-round and come back to the Harbor on the same route. On Wednesday, I will write a review of our ride and along with it will be a description of next week’s ride. For your psychological Comfort, the ride will have a Leader in the front and a SAG in the rear. By keeping yourself somewhere in the middle of those two you can assure yourself that you won’t be left out in the “dark” somewhere in or around the city or county of Marquette!

Get out your air-pump, shine up your bike (or not) and come on down and join us! At least give it a try! You don’t have to sign-up, just show up.

How will you find us in the Harbor? Easy, we are right in front of the “Comfort Station” where they sell Gilberts ice cream cones!
